When you install Thunderbird, it creates a user account. The account stores your email information (log-in data, server settings, mail archive). That is why it is enough to copy the account file and change it for the new email user.

First, let’s find out where we can find the user file Thunderbird. To do this, you should launch the program and right-click the working e-mail.

Find the Parameters point

In the dialog box under the box name, click on the point Server Parameters.

On the right side, go to the end of the Mail storage and look at the field of Local catalog address.

Let’s copy the local address to use it. Then, close the parameters box and the mail user. The root:

/Users/username/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/u0s5e1xn.default-release/ImapMail/mail.mecmep.site

Follow the address and copy the account file. To restore the email box in another «Mozilla Thunderbird», replace the existing file with the copied one (or change the root to the Local catalog storing data).

After you change the root, you will be offered to reset the user.

This step ends the mail reset.

Mail import using the ImportExportTool extension

To install the extension, you should open Supplement.

You can find the necessary extension using the searching line and install it.

After you install the extension, you should reset Thunderbird. Now, we have several formats for mail import.

For Windows Live Mail, you should do the following.

First, you should launch Windows Explorer from the overview menu or the main menu. Then, you should go to the View tab of the Windows Explorer, and set a flag Hidden elements.

It saves the mail on its root:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\<account name>

In Thunderbird, choose the folder where you want to save the imported files.

Right-click the button and find the point ImportExportTools NG where you can choose eml file import.

Choose the necessary catalog with letters and press OK.

Thunderbird imports messages.

Mail export using the ImportExportTool extension

Find the necessary email address. Then, you should find a folder ‘Inbox’ with the address for export.

Right-click the Inbox folder. You will see the menu.

Press ImportExportTools NG, then you will see a popup menu.

Then, click Export all messages in the folder. The option is located at the top of the popup menu.

The system will open the list of formats for export files.

Choose the file format. You will get messages into it.

Based on how you are going to use the messages, you should do the following:

  • To import a backup in Thunderbird on another PC, choose the EML option.
  • To have an option of reading messages having original formatting and attachments, choose the option HTML (with attachements). Then, press OK.

Choose the folder to save the backup. To do this, click the necessary folder.

The mail backup will be created and sent to the chosen folder.

Mail import Apple Mail

Let’s choose the Import category in the main menu.
