How to Fix Invalid cPanel License Error on WHM

Web Host Manager (WHM) is the server administration panel for cPanel. It is used to manage the server and all cPanel accounts on it. With WHM, you can:

• create, manage and delete cPanel accounts;
• manage all websites on the server;
• view and edit the DNS zones of all domains;
• check the server information and status;
• create custom welcome pages for new accounts;
• customize cPanel and domains with your own branding;
• change account usernames and primary domains;
• log in to any account directly from WHM and change settings that do not require SQL access.

Sometimes, after you log in to WHM, you see the error "Invalid cPanel License". To continue working, you need to fix it.

How to Fix the cPanel License Error

Step 1. Check the license

Check whether the cPanel license is active for your server IP address. Go to verify.cpanel.net, enter the IP address of your server and click Verify.

The result page shows the license status. If it shows "Active", go to Step 2. If it shows "Not licensed", contact your hosting provider to activate the license for this IP address.

Step 2. Update the license on the server

Log in to your server via SSH (for example, with PuTTY) and run:

/usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt

The command updates the license file on the server. Reload WHM, and the error should disappear.
