An Easy Way to Connect to the Server with RDP
To manage a Windows VPS, you connect to it via RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol). RDP lets you work with the desktop of a remote server as if you were sitting in front of it. You need three things: the IP address of the server, the user name (usually Administrator) and the password. You can find them in the email you received after ordering the server or in your client area at my.bluevps.com.
Connecting from Windows
- Press Win + R, type mstsc and press Enter. The Remote Desktop Connection app opens.
- In the Computer field, enter the IP address of your server and click Connect.
- Enter the user name and password and click OK.
- If Windows warns that the identity of the remote computer cannot be verified, select Don't ask me again for connections to this computer and click Yes.
The desktop of your server will open in a new window.
Connecting from macOS
- Install the Windows App (formerly Microsoft Remote Desktop) from the App Store.
- Click + and choose Add PC.
- Enter the IP address of your server in the PC name field and save.
- Double-click the new connection, enter the user name and password, and confirm the certificate warning.
Connecting from Linux
On Linux, the easiest client is Remmina. On Ubuntu and Debian, install it with:
sudo apt install remmina- Open Remmina and select RDP as the connection type.
- Enter the IP address of your server and press Enter.
- Enter the user name and the password from your client area.
- When connecting for the first time, Remmina asks you to accept the server certificate. Accept it.
The Windows desktop will open.
If the Connection Fails
- Check that the server is running in your client area.
- Make sure you entered the IP address and password correctly.
- If you changed the RDP port on the server, add it to the address, for example 203.0.113.10:3390.
- If RDP is blocked by the firewall on the server, use the VNC console in your client area to open the port again.
